History: DDR GDR East Germany

WFMU's Beware of the Blog has a great post called "A short audio-visual history of the GDR (mp3s, videos)". Listen to "Die Partei hat immer recht" (The Party is alway right), German space music like "Kosmos", "FDJ" by IFA Wartburg (more on them here and here) and more. Watch East German commercials like the one above. Ziemlich gut gemacht, Genossen!

Kan inte låta bli att tänka på den däringa filmen om DDR. Kommer inte på vad den heter, men handlingen går ut på att inte avslöja för mamman att muren är rasad och att DDR inte finns längre, för övrigt en mycket bra film.

Christoph: Well, the World Championship is coming up soon. Isn't the Wartburg the official car for that event?! Be sure to watch the other videos too!! I've uploaded them to YouTube as well: http://www.youtube.com/profile?user=mrblock

yes martin it is, but as a cabrio - so they're able to transport 58 balls.
thank you for the link - I will watch the other vids too. Have you ever heard Nina Hagen's great DDR-Hit "du hast den Farbfilm vergessen" if not I'll send the mp3 to you via e-mail. it's a must to have if you're interested of those funny old-DDR-times.

Christoph: Mmmm...a cab!
Actually the Nina Hagen song is in the WFMU's post too! But thanks anyway! Don't forget to listen to the Popgruppe IFA Wartburg! Rumours say they are a Swedish (!)Ossie "nostalgia" band... Kan das wirklich wahr sein?

Ich glaube nicht. I think they are nativ germans with real german names.
i need some days to explore WFMU. Sehr Komisch und zum kaputt-lachen. GOD and I found M. A. Numinnen- "Yes Sir ich kann Boogie" - my mac's still laughing kaputt - I think I'll give again your exhaust-medicine to him. Wenn Du jemals nach Deutschland kommst, I'll give to you a drink or more! thank you for horizon extention.

oh yes and not to laugh: gerade habe ich in den "news" gehört, today is Olof Palme's 20th anniversary of sudden death. very sad! Funny how time slips away as Willie Nelson says.

"Martin Klasch - the horizon extending and mind expanding blog" will be our new motto! Glad you found WFMU. There are good stuff there.
Aber selbstverständlich sind der Rolf und der Heinz von IFA Wartburg deutsch wie Sauerkraut und Knödeln!
About the drink - keep the beer cold!

20 years, yes time flyes! Scary!
