Miss Sweden Of Books 2013

If books were women this book would just have been crowned Miss Sweden 2013 (If you prefer men let's call it Mr Sweden). The award for Sweden's most beautiful book 2013 went to Mattias Adolfsson's "The second in line" designed by Jens Andersson.

Books: Nice Backs

Backs of books can be great. I know this photo I took today in a secondhand bookshop/thrift store/antique store is a bit out of focus but I still wanted to show it to you. It is a Swedish encyclopedia of animals called Djurens värld ("The World of Animals") and it was printed in 1963 or -64 if I remember correctly. Sadly I couldn't find out who designed it, but it would make anyone's library look nicer.

Update: I went back and took a few more photos, put them together:

Svarta Serien

These are paperback covers belonging to a Swedish publication series of crime books from the 60s called "Svarta serien" - "The Black Series". What they also have in common is that they are all illustrated by one of my absolute favorites - Per Åhlin. I and his other fans are lucky because in the 60s he was very active as a book cover illustrator. Thus it is not hard to come by his works in antiquarian bookshops or thrift stores.

Children's Books: Kajsa

From Musselsoppans Vänner

I just happened to come across this little charming children's book from 1961 in a thrift store today. The illustrations were made by Åke Lewerth (for Swedes mostly know for illustrating Agaton Sax). You will find some more from the Kajsa book at Musselsoppans Vänner.
