Photo: Now and Then

Pieces of old photos from “The Siege of Leningrad", 1941-44, laid over photos of the modern city (now St Petersburg), taken at the same place and in the same angle. Made by Sergei Larenkov.

Films: NFB.ca Launches Today

"NFB.ca is the National Film Board of Canada’s new online film site that puts hundreds of animated films, documentaries, and experimental films back in front of the people that created and paid for them."

quote: DRAWN!

I just finished watching a documentary called "Carts Of Darkness".
"Murray Siple's feature-length documentary follows a group of homeless men who have combined bottle picking with the extreme sport of racing shopping carts down the steep hills of North Vancouver."

Vintage Cars: Volvo P1900

One more P1900 image at Phil Seed's Virtual Cars Museum

Have you ever heard of or seen the Volvo P1900 model? I hadn't. Well, I know practically nothing of cars so that's no surprise really. Learning that only 68 cars of that model were made (1956-1957) of course makes it even less surprising. Read more about it: "I thought it would fall apart!"

Vintage Ads: Christina Lindberg Battery Ad

"Be kind to your radio and your film camera etc. Buy National batteries. It's always cheaper to buy the leakage-safe battery."

Curt of The Groovy Age of Horror blog (NSFW) was kind enough to remind me of this great Christina Lindberg resource: TOMB IT MAY CONCERN - posts labeled Christina Lindberg.
It's NSFW of course. Thanks Curt!

Swedish Actresses: Christina Lindberg

A promotional photo uploaded to Vintage Photo by are you asleep. - 3 more!

Christina Lindberg as Frigga / Madeleine / One Eye in the Swedish movie "Thriller - en grym film" (1974) also known as "Hooker's Revenge" (USA) (reissue title), "They Call Her One Eye" (USA) (censored version), "Thriller: A Cruel Picture" (USA).

Christina Lindberg was not only a successful actress in movies with an erotic touch but she also was a well-known pin-up model. Here you'll find quite a lot of examples from that career and screen shots too. I should not have to explain that it is NSFW. Should I?

Ephemera: Badges

This is the badge collection of Johan Urban Bergquist. I found it on his weblog (recommended). I'd guess the collection is mainly from the 70's and perhaps early 80's. I'd also guess one might say it was, at least partly, a typical collection for a Swedish kid at that time. If you were a ska fan.

Music: Right On! Soul Hits

A repost after about two years:

"Right On Soul Hits - the stone smashes that are in the charts today! The big ones written by James Brown, Joe Tex, Marvin Gaye, Wilson Pickett and a host of others. The tunes that are lighting up the soul charts from New Orleans to Boston - L.A. to New York. A right on collection in the original sound." (from the Liner Notes)

I don't know who's playing but I think the recordings, on this album released in 1972, are great. Groovy listening!

UPDATE: The show is over.
Sorry for the inconvenience but if you are truly interested mail me (martinklasch AT gmail DOT com) and I'll consider making an exception to that rule.
