Music: "Frenzy" by Screamin' Jay Hawkins

"...the stage in pitch darkness... a terrifying bang which scared the audience silly... Jay emerging into the spotlight over the "I Put A Spell On You" riff, Henry smoking a cigarette (you know smoking's bad for you, look at Henry) FLASH... Jay's rich baritone coming as though from the back of a swamp-filled cave... howling, screaming, grunting the lyrics, Jay suddenly whipping out a battered tenor sax, blasting the enthralled audience with all the power his lungs could command... the red spotlight, white turban, shades, a skull on the end of a pole... BANG!... FLASH!... "I put a spell on you... because... you're mine... SCREAM... all mine... CRASH!"... and now a whole album full of the choicest cuts from the man's repertoire... play it loud and often. " linernotes: Roger Eagle April 1982

The Martin Klasch Re-Post-O-Rama...

...is finally over. The past week's re-posts was, as I said earlier, a one-year-jubilee-thing. I also said it would last a week and one week has gone so that's it (for now). For our collective convenience I have gathered the re-posts on a new blog that I've called Martin Klasch - These Are Some Of My Favorite Things.

Finally: You might have noticed that I've borrowed the visual style for the re-post images from El Burlador. Thanks Fede, I hope you didn't mind! See it as a homage!

Anyone else getting tired of ...

...the frequent Blogger image uploading problems?

Music : Gunnar Wiklund goes German

Many Swedish artists managed to expand their otherwise, from linguistic reasons, limited market by singing in German. Swedish singer/actress Zarah Leander became a big star in Germany already in the 30s and 40s (which caused problems for her after WWII). Later on, in the 50s and 60s, for instance Siw Malmqvist made the German charts and Swedish dansbands like Vikingarna (die Wikinger) are still popular in Germany.

Gunnar Wiklund was a big Swedish singer in the late 50s and 60s and he evidently also made German "musical ads" like this recording of Du bist schön wie der Sonnenschein (You Are Beautiful Like The Sunshine) which promotes shoes from Servas Schuhfabriken. At least his recording was used for this purpose. The nice song is overdubbed in a kind of funny way by the commercial speaker voice promoting the shoes. The song goes (in German) "...tell me when you'll have time for me" and then the speaker goes "...and time to buy Servas shoes!"
