Lockfågeln

Original title: La femme de paille
Cover by: Rolf Lagerson
Printed: 1958

Book Covers: Per Åhlin

There are new additions to our Flickr group called, quite simply: Per Åhlin.

"Per Åhlin is a Swedish illustrator and animator born in 1931. He is mostly known for his animations but in fact he was one of the most productive Swedish illustrators of paperback covers in the 60s and 70s.

This is an attempt to collect and document as many of his book illustrations as possible. However the group is called just "Per Åhlin" to mark that it is open for his other illustrations too."

So far the contributing members are P-E Fronning and David at The Klockarp Institute. Maybe you'd like to join as a member too? Contributing or not you are welcome.

Vintage Games: Strongman Machine

Photos by P-E Fronning

This is a vintage Swedish coin-operated game machine which measures your strength as you try to press a couple of handles together (They are not seen in the photos I'm afraid). Judging by the funny illustrations I'd guess the machine is from the 60s. The results of your efforts vary from "infant" to "world champion" via "maiden", "drunkard", "clerk", "half-strong", "ladies' man", "lumberjack", "athlete" and "fighter".

Is there a good name in English for such a machine?

Update:
Sarah of Meet Me At Mikes says: "It's not a very good name, but here in the US those games are called "Test Your Strength""
