Music: Jorge Ben

"Jorge Ben Jor (born 1942 in Rio de Janeiro) is a Brazilian popular musician. His characteristic style fuses samba, funk, and rock into samba-rock, with lyrics that blend humor and satire with often esoteric subject matter."

"In 1963, Jorge came on stage and sang "Mas Que Nada" (or "no way") to a small crowd that happened to include an executive from the recording company, Philips. One week later, Jorge Ben's first disc was launched."

"The hybrid rhythms that Jorge employed brought him some problems at the start of his career, when Brazilian music was split between the rockier sounds of the Jovem Guarda and traditional samba with its complex lyrics. But as that phase in Brazilian pop music history passed, and the entire world became captivated by bossa nova, Jorge rose to prominence."

Music: More Sivuca!

By now you probably know we are fans of the recently deceased musician Sivuca here at Martin Klasch. Reader Ron kindly pointed out the excellent Brazil music blog Loronix to us. They have among other nice things shared lots of Sivuca albums. I have noted the date for their posts thinking it might be smart to begin at the earliest - who knows they might go obsolete!

There might be more that I didn't find...

Music: Sivuca has passed away

On the 14th of Dembember the Brazilian musician Severino (Sivuca) Dias de Oliveira died from cancer at the age of 76.

Here's another re-post of the record "Guitar & Accordion" recorded 1969 at Europa Studios in Stockholm, Sweden.

PS. This record has probably never been reprinted, at least I can't find it anywhere. It isn't even on the list of his records on his own website. Let me know if you find it!
Hurry up!!! It'll only be there a couple of days!
Sivuca's website.
Buy other Sivuca records that are available!

History: Brazil goes Åtvidaberg

It's the summer of 1966. The Brazilian national football team has been invited to the Swedish town of Åtvidaberg by the AB Facit company, at the time a large successful producer of calculators and typewriters. It is all a part of the Brazilian team's training program for the World Cup in England later in the summer. They have just played a training game against Åtvidaberg FF and now it's relaxation and party time. Singer Lill Lindfors is entertaining, Pelé, guys in viking helmets are there and meat is being grilled over the Churasqueiras...

Guest blogging: Fronning in da house

Hello folks!
This is Fronning in good shape and form announcing his return. I want to thank dear ol' Mr Dante Fontana for keeping the Martin Klasch spirit alive while I was away. I realize I've got some catching up to do and I'm looking forward to checking out his posts.

Good night and see ya tomorrow!

Geography: Arnie in Rio

Brazil... Hm.
What is Mr. Fronning doing "down" there?

Arnold knows! He's not just a governor - he is an ass connaisseur as well.
We are going to the carnival in Rio with Arnie. It's Brazil. But it's not Sao Paulo.
But, P-E Fronning might catch a glimpse of ass anyway. Maybe his own if he has a big mirror in his hotel room.
Anyway, here it is: Arnie in Rio. (via Bello Púbico)

Sign of Life

Hi, this is P-E Fronning alive and well in Sao Paolo. All's well here.
Unfortunately I'm not able to read the blog (!!) and Mr Fontanas fantastic posts:( Hopefully later though.
Take care all you good people!

Just letting you know gently...

...t hat Mr Fronning will be away between the 2nd and 13th of November. However, I'm glad to say that Martin Klasch will still be open for business. Dear ol' Mr Dante Fontana of PCL LinkDump will post some stuff here - Martin Klasch may well be better than ever during these days!

The postcard above, though a little dated, shows where I'm going. Do you know? Another clue might be that the second photo produced in a Google picture search was an excellent female butt on a beach.

More clues later.

Update:
Mr J. finally found the correct answer - Sao Paolo. Bibi's home city by the way.
