Blogger: What a scare!

Phew! I have cause for a huge sigh of relief. For a few of days it has been impossible to read this blog - at least for some. (I'd like to know if you managed it anyway!) When I tried accessing the blog in FireFox a window appeared saying the URL wasn't valid and that viewing the page was impossible. However, when I clicked OK the page was shown anyway (?!). IE couldn't find it at all.

"I'll be doggone", I thought, "if I've gone and sabotaged my own blog!" Had I changed the code recently? No, I couldn't think of any changes. To understand the extent of my concern you have to know that I don't know how to write code. It is true that I have made several changes to the template over the years but they are all small steps one at a time done by trial and error, copying code from other sites etc.

Now, even though I was pretty concerned by this newly arisen predicament I didn't panic. I didn't go berserk deleting, changing code randomly. But I did finally - after scanning the code without finding any loose ends - delete a couple of page elements which were totally meaningless anyway and voilá! We are back!

Beware of the evil Wikipedia search widget!

Blogger: Where do all the images go? Part 2

A couple of months ago I put out a question to the readers of Martin Klasch and it is now time to follow up on that. The main question was:

"If you, like me, publish most of your images in your blog by using the upload button in the blogger interface - in other words not using a separate tool - then where do all the images go?"

So, I kind of wanted to know if my blog images were collected somewhere that I and others could find them. My kind readers mrdantefontana, fisk, iluvnufc, arthur ignatowski, modmom, thombeau were all kind enough to participate in the discussion.

Iluvnufc was the first one to mention Picasa Web Albums and sure enough the answer to my question was that...

"...all the photos you've uploaded since December (2006) will appear in an album there, and we're working on migrating your older photos as well. (It'll take a while though - there are a lot of them.)" - Blogger Buzz.

What do you know? There they are!! Thanks to my readers for solving this mystery. Hopefully someone else got their questions answered by this too.

Here is the link to my open image galleries by the way (Your galleries are otherwise closed by default), and below you'll find links to my three open galleries and also an embedded slide show of the Martin Klasch images.

Blogger: Where do all the images go?

?A question for bloggers or others who would know: If you like me publish most of your images in your blog by using the upload button in the blogger interface - in other words not using a separate tool - then where do all the images go? Well, I'm not really interested in the technological aspect I just want to know if I can find them. If I haven't named them for instance "Martin Klasch number 985" etc, is there anyway of searching for them in Google?

The monkeybunny image to the right that I originally called "A1" was given the name "http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_m0YtPN5vgmI/R-pzeuG7EeI/AAAAAAAAC2w/... ...QdFIQgP3nAw/s1600-h/A1.jpg" by Blogger. So I guess that is where it is. But is this blog identified there in anyway? If it is it should be possible to find the rest of the images. Shouldn't it?

Computer: CPU feast

Maybe
I should say "the Firefox Image Zoom extension c'est la mort".

I've had two computer related problems lately: 1. Something has been eating my CPU up totally. I've been thinking my computer is infected or just plain old (it is too) but when I tried using Internet Explorer yesterday not experiencing any problems at all, I became sure it had to do with the newest version of Mozilla Firefox. 2. The second problem had to do with not being able to resize images in Blogger and with images resizing themselves. I wrote and complained about it here.

Today I believe I found the problem! I was about to unwillingly leave Firefox for another browser when I thought I ought to try loosing some of the extensions first hoping they were the reasons. First I lost the ones I didn't really use anyway. When there were no result from that I turned to the ones I used and really liked. The first victim turned out to be the perpetrator as well - Image Zoom. It seams to have caused both problems. At least I hope so.
Also on the good side there are more than one zoom extension available.

Blogger: Image posting problems

I have some problems ...posting images. That's a big problem 'couse, maybe you've noticed, I love images. Since a few days my images have decided to resize themselves and end up much smaller then they have to.

For example take a look at this post and then there's the last post where I wanted the images bigger than they are, filling up the whole post width. I have tried to click and drag them in the Compose mode without result and I've tried editing the code in the Edit Html mode but no dice. well, that is, I've managed to make some changes but not good enough.
Also when I made some changes in my sidebar under the headline "...and these" they suddenly ended up ridiculously small instead of filling out the whole sidebar width.

What's going on?? Have you had any similar experiences?

UPDATE:
CPU feast

Blogger: Hey! I've got a cloud!

Do you also think that the list of labels that Blogger offers is boring? And have you also jealously been admiring some of those neat tag clouds out there? Do you also consider yourself as, more or less, ignorant when it comes to changing codes to make your blog look nice? Don't worry. I managed to create a tag cloud and so can you. Just take some time (maybe an hour or so), copy your blog code for backup and follow the instructions carefully.

Oh and yes, I will place the cloud at the bottom of the blog as soon as I have shown it off a bit (it's there now) ;)

Thanks to Bibi for boosting my confidence!

"By the way. We'll be switching over to "new Blogger". Why? I don't know. Forces I can't control are compelling me. The power of Blogger compels me! The power of Blogger compels me! Anyway, the blog is going to look awful for some time and it will never look the same again. Wish me luck as I know nothing about coding and things like that!" /P-E Fronning

Blogger: Problem

Have you noticed that new Blogger is slower when it comes to showing the images on your (or my) blog? Or is it just me and my machine?? :(

Blogger: Problem

I'm missing the darkish green-blue post background. It's all grey :( Why? I don't know, I didn't fiddle with it.

Update

Strangely enough it looked alright in IE but not in Firefox... I shouldn't have had to but I made some changes in the code (which I'm lousy at) so now the green-blue background is back but I lost the white shadowed outlines (wrap). However I don't think I mind. Time for some more change? I'm thinking of an all grey background including the sidebar. Or is it time for white? We'll see.
